REgifting: reconstruct an old button-down shirt - Workshop

Description

Bring new meaning to "REgifting" this holiday!  Transform an old button-down shirt into fresh new accessories with Miranda Caroligne, author of Reconstructing Clothes for Dummies.  Miranda will introduce a variety of decorative tricks to trick out cuffs and collars with ease.  Whether you're looking to make your own gifts, or get new ideas to keep idle hands busy and out of the cookie jar, this is a fun workshop for everyone!

Miranda recommends salvaging a button-down shirt from your own closet and bringing it along to help keep costs, and waste, to a minimum!  Scissors, needle, thread, paint, brushes, adornments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own as well.

About the Artist
Miranda Caroligne makes a statement on diminishing waste by creating wearable sculptures from salvaged textiles. Her fashion shows, performances and stunning one-of-a-kind creations have established her as a bright new star in San Francisco's constellation of provocative artist-designers. Miranda is currently based out of her own boutique, Miranda Caroligne – a living construction boutique, located at 485 14th Street @ Guerrero; with a brand new collaborative boutique, Pandora's Trunk at 544 Haight between Steiner/Fillmore.

Description

Learn how to make a lined, zip-top shoulder bag with simple, sturdy cotton webbing handles.  Once you learn the basic technique, you can adapt it to make a ton of different sizes, shapes and strap lengths.

Software: Microsoft Office Have you ever wondered how they get that "frosted" look on glass?  In this glass etching workshop, you will learn how to use stencils and acid to create your own frosted glass pieces.  Glass etching is super easy and makes great gifts.  Class fee includes glass vase or ornament of your choice.

Amy Ulrich is the owner of Yarn Paper Scissors, a fiber arts and crafts studio located in downtown Burlingame.  When not chasing after her two and a half year old, Amy can be found creating all kinds of masterpieces -- knitted Halloween ornaments, felted gnomes, origami clothing, and other important crafty pieces.

Shannon lives and spins in southern Vermont with her man, her little man, one cat and 22 chickens. An SF Bay Area native, she maintains her web shop and her wood stove all winter long, and is often caught daydreaming of her homeland when the temp drops below freezing. For months. It's a darn good thing she plays with wool.

Description

Handheld looms (such as the Weave-it or Weavette) are great portable craft tools that are perfect for using up leftover yarn.  In this demonstration you will see how quick and easy it is to weave a wonderful mini-textile and take a look at a wide variety of finished projects that incorporate woven squares.    If you knit, spin, or crochet, you'll want to see this amazing little loom in action!

Karrie is a full-time scientist, part-time crafter. She is especially drawn to small, quick projects and will try anything from printing to sewing.
